Roberta Frameglia, soprano, has asked me to prepare a drawing for the cover of her new CD devoted to Christmas carols. She asked me an interpretation of the theme of the Holy Family. In particular, Roberta wanted a simple and immediately readable drawing, a sober drawing but adequate to the subject. In my design Saint Joseph is not merely the guardian of Mary and Jesus, as traditionally states. So Mary and Joseph look at each, and both hold the child, signifying that they love him and grow by sharing the choices, the joy and responsibility. The two profiles of Mary and Joseph are tracked by a seamless line to underline this point. As for the choice of colors, Maria is the union of human (red) and divine (blue), while Joseph is entirely red; Jesus is the light, so I chose yellow. Roberta Frameglia, soprano, mi ha chiesto di preparare un'illustrazione per la copertina del suo nuovo CD dedicato ai canti tradizionali natalizi. Mi ha chiesto d'interpretare il tema della Sacra famiglia. In particolare, chiedeva un disegno semplice e d'immediata lettura, sobrio ma adeguato al soggetto. Nel mio disegno Giuseppe non è il mero custode di Maria e Gesù, come tradizionalmente si usa. Perciò Maria e Giuseppe si guardano, ed entrambi reggono il bimbo, a significare che lo amano e lo crescono condividendo scelte, gioie, responsabilità. A sottolineare questo concetto, i due profili sono disegnati da una linea senza soluzione di continuità.Per quanto riguarda i colori, ho fatto riferimento alla tradizione ed al loro significato simbolico: Maria è l'unione dell'umano (rosso) e del divino (blu), mentre Giuseppe è interamente rosso.
